There are nine major causes to depression and anxiety, and two of them are chemical; but the other seven root in our way of living.
There are also psychological needs to humanbeing just like biological ones— you need to belong, you need to be valued and you need a purpose .
If you are depressed you are not weak. You are not crazy. You are not a machine with broken parts! You are just a human being with unmet needs.
The solutions need to go deeper since the causes are deeper! Two of those seven cause are:
  1. We are the loneliest society of the human’s history. One key reason that we are alive is that our ancestors were good at group work! We are the first human beings ever to disband from our tribes. In this case drugs really doesn’t solve the underlying problems. The answer is social prescribing. Unlike The common advice to be yourself, you don’t need to be you, you need to be us! To be part of a group!To be part of a bigger community.
  2.  Just like junk food has made us physically sick, a kind of junk values has done the same to our minds. The more you believe you can buy and display your way out of the sadness, and into a good life, the more you are likely to become anxious and depressed. As a society we’ve been driven much more by these believes. We live in a machine that is designed to get us to neglect what is important about life
Remember your depression is not a malfunction in your brain. It’s a signal. It’s telling you something.
